Salvaged Elements

When Glen Arden was razed, many architectural elements were salvaged, including the newel posts, railings and banisters, leaded glass windows, lighting fixtures, doors, garden statuary, and fireplace mantles. The most iconic part of Glen Arden was the three-story octagonal turret, where Sidney Smith drew his famous comic, The Gumps. The entire top floor was saved, including the original roof, finial, and floorboards.  We look forward to restoring this turret to its original position and preserving history for the next century.
